acrylic on canvas, sculpting medium, archive installation

120 x 100 cm

How do we create art about an event often tied with loss without flattening lives into grief alone? This work stitches together portrait and archive, while also playing with 3 dimensionality, to ask how the struggles and ideals of those who fought continue to reach toward us today. This work contemplates on what commemoration, celebration, and symbolic remembrance bring in the midst of melancholia.
